Midpoint Calculator
Find the midpoint between two coordinate points.
How this calculator works
How to use this calculator
1. Enter x₁ and y₁ for the first point.
2. Enter x₂ and y₂ for the second point.
3. Click Calculate Midpoint to find the point exactly halfway between them.
Formula used
Midpoint = ((x₁ + x₂) ÷ 2, (y₁ + y₂) ÷ 2)
The x-coordinates are averaged together, and the y-coordinates are averaged together.
Example calculation
Example: (2, 4) and (6, 10)
Midpoint x = (2 + 6) ÷ 2 = 4
Midpoint y = (4 + 10) ÷ 2 = 7
Result = (4, 7)
What the result means
The midpoint is the coordinate located exactly halfway between the two entered points on a straight line segment.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use negative coordinates?
Yes. The midpoint formula works with positive, negative, and decimal coordinates.
Can the midpoint contain decimals?
Yes. If the coordinate sums are not evenly divisible by 2, the midpoint can be a decimal.
What if both points are identical?
The midpoint is the same coordinate as the two entered points.
