Wallpaper Calculator
Estimate wallpaper rolls needed based on wall size, roll coverage, openings, and waste.
How this calculator works
How to use this calculator
Enter total wall width and wall height in feet. Optionally subtract doors and windows, then enter the square feet covered by one roll and a waste allowance.
Formula used
Gross Wall Area = Total Wall Width × Wall Height. Net Area = Gross Area − Openings. Wallpaper Needed = Net Area × (1 + Waste %). Rolls Needed = Wallpaper Needed ÷ Roll Coverage, rounded up.
Example calculation
A wall area of 40 ft wide by 9 ft high is 360 sq ft. Subtract 40 sq ft of openings and add 10% waste to get 352 sq ft. If one roll covers 56 sq ft, you need 7 rolls.
What the result means
The result estimates how many wallpaper rolls to buy for the project.
Frequently asked questions
Should I include waste?
Yes. Wallpaper projects often need extra for pattern matching and trimming.
What is total wall width?
Add the widths of all walls you want to cover.
Does this account for pattern repeat?
Not directly. Increase the waste percentage for large patterns or matching requirements.
